My name is Nobody...

What does the common man do, when there are no ideals to follow, when his heroes are a dead and decadent part of folklore, as old as Jesus Christ......when in a new world there is crime, that is growing, in ever encompassing manner, due to lack of a proper containment?

I think that in such cases, he has no other option but to turn to villainy himself or else remain oppressed, under the iron fist of the tyrannical delinquency that he thrives in.. For, His morals are eroded, due to lack of any firm example, that is set for him to follow. The common man, can not remain the Good citizen, that one expects if he knows, that being Brave or Good is not only Profitless business, but also quite injurious to the mental, social and physical well being of his person.

So in our country, we have tales of great heroes meant to inspire us, to let us know, that great odds can be overcome, if one is brave, committed and pure.

Similar examples abound in western culture, of David, Jesus, Roland, Joan of Ark, to quote a few. We are supposed to hold on to their precedent so that we can draw strength from it along with the will to fight injustice.

But consider a society that is only born anew. Consider, A people without heroes and Idols. Such was the case of the west, in America when this particular story begins....

A gunfighter, named Jack Beauregard, has been made famous by his exploits with known criminals. He challenges and engages them in man-o Mano type combats and being the quickest draw makes them bite the dust (literally). But the criminals are honorable (or to put it another way, stupid) and Jack is young. As time progresses, it takes away the youthful speed and strength of Jack, while strengthening the criminals. They have become now, more organised and numerous. They operate not openly, but in devious ways.... Even Jack knows now that his time has come....People have already begun to forget him...He might have done great service to the community, but he has nothing legendary on his record... Recognizing this he begins to question his future role and now, he is ready to run away from the country, which he has helped to build, to the relative safety of Europe. But it won't be easy...Hired thugs are already on his trail, set loose by a former partner, and it will be a hard and long journey, to the ship that leaves the American shores........ perhaps a journey that will end too early...

The story would have ended here right, but for the appearance of NOBODY. NOBODY (its the name) is an expert marksman, the fastest draw in the west. Born with a sharp understanding of the world and a undying Hero-Worship for Jack, NOBODY knows, that the west requires something more than a passing hero to survive...That, it requires a legend, a legend so great, that the feat performed by it should be a part of the annals of history. So he conjures up a simple plan....hounding a reluctant Jack to face his, so called ,destiny. The wild bunch, is a bandit gang with 150 pure bred SOBs (as NOBODY describes them) . They terrorize towns looting and harassing the populous in their wake. According to NOBODY's plan, Jack should face them alone and try and destroy all of them.... Is this is simply the wish of every child, magnified to reality, to have his hero do the undoable or is there a deeper and sinister reason behind it? And in any case isn't the feat impossible?

The answer to all these doubts, is a brilliant combination of Brains and Skills, that is needed to be performed by Jack, only to succeed with the help of NOBODY and this is not the amazing and brilliant climax, but is superseded by the answer to the question of how Jack must escape the ruthless killers, still following him to no end....but that of Jack's.....

Through this hilarious and thought provoking tale, NOBODY, portrayed by Terence Hill, emerges as the real hero on his path to become somebody....though reluctantly. For he has no real need or ambition, but just the fantastic wish, to continue through his life, in his own whimsical manner.Henry Fonda plays an aging hero, Jack, fleeing for life but finally understanding the meaning of the title of a Hero, that has managed to stick to him. The story is based on an idea by the director Sergio Leone and the music is provided by Ennio Morricone of the legendary western spaghetti movie themes fame. The music aptly combines Wagner's the ride of the Valkyries along with original score by Morricone to great effect and exhilaration. Finally, if you haven't got it still, its a must watch movie.
